Wiring A Fan With Light

Wiring ceiling fan and light with one switch this method allows you to turn on the fan and the light from one single wall switch cutting out the necessity to use the pull chain every time you want to adjust the fan.

The blue wire is the hot wire for the ceiling fan light fixture. The ceiling fan motor does not have a ground wire. Connect the black and blue wires in your fan if you only have 1 switch. Connect the black and blue wires coming out of your fan.

This will allow you to control your fan and lights with a single switch. The source is at the switches and the input of each is spliced to the black source wire with a wire nut. Connect the green copper wires together. Make a pigtail of the ground wire using two 6 inch lengths of bare wire and connect one ground wire to the fan switch and one to the light switch.
